Overflow Incontinence is Not a Normal Condition

Bladder control women
An individual suffering from a condition where he/she is unable to control the urge to urinate is said to be suffering from urinary incontinence or leaky bladder. There are four types of urinary incontinence which is common among elderly people. This condition is more common among women than in men. People often think that leaky bladder is normal with age or they are too embarrassed to share their problem with their physician, hence, a large number of people go without receiving any proper treatment regarding the leaky bladder condition. If people did come forward and address this condition, then they would be able to cure themselves from it or be significantly relieved.

Overflow incontinence is one of the several types of urinary incontinence. This condition is characterized by the release of urine involuntarily from a urinary bladder which is overly full, usually in the absence of any want to urinate. This type of incontinence happens in those people whose urinary bladder is blocked due to reasons like prostate cancer or the urethra being narrow, or when the muscles in the bladder which helps to expel the urine is too weak. Incontinence can also be an effect of certain medicines that people take when they become aged. This type of incontinence is more common in men than in women and its potential causes are:

• An enlarged prostate.

• The urethra gets blocked due to formation of urinary stones, tumors or infections causing swelling.
• The bladder is affected if nerves get injured.

• Bladder muscles becoming weak and are not able to squeeze the urine out of the bladder.

• Diseases like Parkinson’s, diabetes, alcoholism causes nerve damage which causes incontinence.

• Antidepressants and other medicines affect the nerves that send message to the bladder.

The treatment for a person suffering from overflow incontinence is the administration of medicines, or surgery, or if that doesn’t work, then the use of catheters. Catheters can be used on a temporary basis or on a permanent basis. But a person using catheter constantly, should be beware of urinary tract infection.

You learn how to control your toilet habits and output of urine for a period of time say, few weeks to months. This will help you how to hold urine for longer time and to resist the urge to go and how to void it at regular intervals.

• Medications: There are medications available when exercises and behavior training do not work. The medication helps to increase the capacity of the bladder and to help in preventing bladder contraction. Please avoid over the counter medication as it may complicate the situation. Bladder Control Women | Overactive Bladder Symptoms

Bladder control women
Millions of women experience involuntary loss of urine or overactive bladder symptoms. Leaking urine, having to urinate frequently and experiencing other symptoms of urinary incontinence aren't simply the side effects of childbirth or a natural part of aging; there are other underlying factors that should be considered. Not all doctors typically ask about urinary function during an annual physical exam. Therefore it is up to the patient to ask the questions and get the conversation started. If you have bladder control problems, tell your doctor about them and ask for help.

Bladder control problems are quite common for women and are mostly known as the affliction known as cystitis. Bladder control problems require medical attention for several reasons, some of which are listed below:

• It may reveal a serious, unknown medical problem such as diabetes or kidney problems

• It can cause sufferers to reduce physical activities

• It can lead sufferers to withdraw from social activities

• It may increase your risk of falling if you have balance problems

Two common treatments for incontinence are:

Bladder training. Bladder training involves learning to delay urination after you have the urge. The goal is to increase the time between trips to the toilet until you're urinating at even intervals. As well, bladder training may involve learning to control urges to urinate. When you feel the urge to urinate, you're instructed to relax or to distract yourself with a physical activity.

Pelvic floor muscle exercises. These exercises will help you to strengthen pelvic floor muscles — the muscles that help control urination. It’s recommended you do these exercises frequently. Known as kegel exercises it involves squeezing the muscles you would use to stop urinating and hold them for a bit then repeating. Manage your diet and lifestyle. In some cases, you can simply change your daily habits to take control of your bladder. Try cutting back on alcohol, caffeine or acidic foods. Also increasing water consumption, losing weight or increasing physical activity are other lifestyle changes that can eliminate the problem.
